The narrowband adventure continues

This is a "first light" image from a new Atik 314lL CCD camera, a recent upgrade from the former Atik 16iC, which is now in use as a guide camera.

M27 is one of the best known (and imaged) planetary nebula in the sky and a beautiful example of a bi-polar planetary nebula. About 1200 light-years distant in the constellation of Vulpecula its gaseous emissions span 2.5 light years across. In this image blue represents triply ionised oxygen and green ionised hydrogen.

This is the same image but with an Ha/SII/OIII colour mapping which produces a slightly more familiar colour rendering.
